Here are some techniques that work with your Indigo children, teens, or adults, to help everyone appreciate and respect your unique gifts and attributes.

First, the place to ?come from? is love, as if love were the only thing that matters. If you can?t do that, at least be honest and say so. Your Indigo will respect you for that — it will get her/his attention! Maybe next time, you?ll be more present and loving.

?Keep it real? could be the Indigo motto. We love to know the truth, even if we don?t like it when we hear it — and that means what is true for YOU, not necessarily presented as if your truth is the ONLY truth.

Coaching really works with Indigos. Ask respectful questions, such as, ?What is it about this situation that has you so upset?? or ?What other solutions do you see here that might work better for everyone??

Remember that the word ?because? is not an answer, it is a challenge to rebel. Give options in every situation, and request that your Indigo participate in creating the outcome. S/he will amaze you with her/his insight and brilliance!

Finally, find something to laugh about. Most situations contain within them the seeds of the improbable, the silly, the undignified, or the ridiculous. When things start to deteriorate (because, with Indigos, they WILL,) find the funny side. It?s there if you want to see it — and take it from experience — laughter heals. Get them to see what?s hilarious about it, and celebrate the mystery of experience together.

In short, coach — don’t “tell”. Empower your young Indigo children by inviting them to be solve situations and problems in their lives. This is how they learn to be response-able teens and adults.
